Now this frog’s name was Conrad, and he was a clever fellow. He thought, Humph! Not another hungry animal on his way to the village! How many are there? I need to think fast. I can’t be this one’s dinner!

Right on cue, Watse said, “You look delicious! I’ve got you, you delicious Froggy!”

“Who are you calling Froggy? I’m Sbal Pa Ring Shing, you silly fox. Put me down right this instant!” commanded Conrad, in a regal tone.

Watse was flustered. “Ummm … What? Huh?

W-w-who?” he stammered.

“You ignorant mammal. What’s your name? I am the most powerful monk of this century. Haven’t you heard of me? You would if you’d keep your nose up and look at the animals around you, instead of downwards – always trying to sniff out your next meal. I am the MOST POWERFUL monk of this century. I’m just about to attain nirvana. Put me down and begone!” commanded Conrad, in a loud, forceful voice.

Now, Watse had met many wonderful monks during his lifetime. He was really confused and unsure. This had never happened before. Is he really a monk? Should I let him go? he thought.

He paused, and then replied, “I’m Watse. You are a frog! If you really are a monk, show me your true form. I need to see it! Not this frog form!”

“Huh? What new nonsense is this? No way! Don’t you know? If I do show you my true form, I will lose one hundred years of good karma. I will not waste that on you, Watse,” replied Conrad.

Watse couched down and looked ready to pounce. “Grrrr …”

Conrad’s heart started racing. Then suddenly, he had the most brilliant idea!

“Watse, relax. Since I am a wise monk, I will give you a solution. Hear me out.”

Watse nodded uncertainly. “Go on …”

“It’s a simple one. Let’s see if you can outjump me. Look at your size, look at mine. Surely, if I am just an ordinary frog, you will not find this hard to do. If you can outjump me, then you can eat me. I will not stop you,” replied Conrad, looking him right in the eye.
